Bought a new house with gas forced air system (1 zone, ~2500 sq feet). Always owned zoned gas, baseboard water heat until now so I am out of my element. Intermittent problems where I wake up with the house cold, but there are other issues:

1) The thermostat needs to be set to 72 or higher to make house feel like it's at least 68. Used to keep my old house at 65 in 2 zones and 68 in main living area.
2) Main problem: 2 of the last three mornings, I woke up to the thermostat reading the house was in low 60's even though the thermostat was still set in the 70's. First night I dialed it back to 70 from 72 while we were sleeping and woke up to it being 62. Fan and furnace did not fire up unless I had the thermostat set to 72 or higher. Next night I kept it at 72 and had no problems. Last night, left it at 72 and woke up to the house being 64 even though the thermostat was still set to 72.

Since the furnace fires up and the fan still comes on, I am guessing it is the thermostat. Anybody have any insight before I call someone in and spend money that I do not need or want to since I just boughtand moved in this month.

Thank-you

first off a humidifier will work wonders even with the low temps off 66 n 68 my parents keep their t-stat at 68 and it feels like 74, one thing you can do before calling someone out is change the T-stat if its one of the round honeywell and has a mercury switch in it it must be level or it wont turn on the unit at the right temp, another thing with those round honeywells is theres a little tiny ball smaller than a bb that moves into place when you move the switch to make the connection, the plastic on the switch basically holds it in place sometimes it get worn out, not making a connection, but usually theres only 4 wires just right down where they go before you disconnect and install a new one

Actually it may be the furnace, when you wake up and play with the thermostat you may be resetting it. What is the make and model? As well this home temperature issue may be due to lack of humidity

Xenos.

The best way to escape a problem is to solve it.

The thermostat is a Honeywell. The numbers on the device were: CT87A 4447 1 0242. Not sure which is the model, but I believe it is the CT87A.

The furnace has several Mfg names on it, but I believe it is a Snyder General, model#: GUD100A020AIN. Other Mfg names I saw on the furnace: RPJ Heat Exchanger and ArcoAire.

Hope this helps. Thanks

Have a few question.
1 At the T-stat is it 72 degrees or 60ish in the mourning(Get a thermometer set next to T-stat).
If it reads 72 then it sounds like a house heat load/duct problem
If its not then its a T-stat/heater problem.
Base board heates are great and they may be the difference here.

If you think the thermostat is causing the problems, why not adjust it to 75 for couple of nights as a test. If it warmed the house without any problems, then it is the thermostat.
