Some systems have a double or even triple row of condenser coils that get clogged up with debris that is not visible from outside the unit.

If I suspect that it may be the problem I will pop the top of the unit loose near the condenser fan and peak down between the coils. It's amazing how much trash can get in between these style of coils, and washing them from the outside rarely gets this stuff out. The best way is to remove the top and split the coils apart, and hose them off. I know it sounds painful, but it's a money maker.

An easy indicater of this problem is hi head/hi liquid temp, and air flow from the condenser fan scooting across the top of the unit instead of up and away from the fan.

I live in Dallas, TX., and see this problem every year.

If it don't fit force it.

If it breaks it needed to be replaced anyways.

Your largest heat load in a building normally occurs after 3PM there for it’s a capacity issue. Make sure the equipment is clean and running efficiently.

The best way to escape a problem is to solve it.

Check the easy stuff first, dirty filter and dirty condenser coil (the visible coil on the outside unit). After that, depending on the type of controls you use, it could be as simple as a programing problem in the control. Check to make sure the time and day are set right on a programmable stat and that your settings for unoccupied mode start time and temp are where you want them. Beyond these easy things call a service company and have them check freon and system operation.
