My current a/c unit is 35 years old and has expired. It is a SEARS unit and currently hsa no pressure in either A/C line - no r22.
Can I legally take the old system out? EPA problems or license issues if I di it myself?
I wish to replace my house A/C unit and currently have mechanical connections to the outside unit.
All the replacement units I see advertised have solder/sweat connectors.
I believe the replacement to br straightforard and not very complex.
I would avoid the markup and labor charges if I went with the mechanical joint units. These have lasted 35 years- must be pretty good desu=ign.
The condensor and evaporator can be purchased PRECHARGED WITH R22. If I could also purchase the 3/8 and 3/4 line sets, I should be able to install it myself.
Does anyone know of a company that sells these precharged line sets?

From what you have posted, I can tell you do not know enough to install a condensing unit. For example, Aren't you going to replace your evaporator coil? How much refrigerent are you going to need? How will you know when the charge is right? Do you have a vacuum pump? What size unit do you need? Brazed connections are better then mechanical.

No one is going to sell you this stuff without an EPA liscense. It's not quite as simple as you percieve it to be.
