Hi Cam,
An air separator is a device which cause water to turbulate, or spin, which will break out any air bubbles that becomes entrained with the water. This air entrainment is usually caused by the pumping action of a high speed circ pump (over 800 rpm on the pump impellor).
Once you think you've got it idiot proof someone finds a better idiot!
