I have a tenant space that has a York rooftop Unit Model D7CG060N09. I understand that this unit is about 5 years old.
The contractor installed a new Honeywell Thermostat Chronotherm T8600. During the summer I have had problems with this unit coming on. It seems as if the fan runs ok (all the time) but the cooling wouldn't kick in. I thought the thermostat may have been damaged by some contractors who did some tenant finish improvements so I bought the old tried and true Honeywell mercury switfch thermostat CT87A. This seemed to work okay but occassionally it would not kick in. It seemed that if I switched the circuit breaker on and off that would make it work again.
It has been working fine until recently when I had to occassionally do the circuit breaker trick. However today even the circuit breaker trick will not work.
I have had my HVAC contractor out and he spent an entire day examining the unit, etc. and found nothing wrong.
Besides having more contractors come out (and more expense) is there anything I can do to try to fiux the problem?
Also, is this thermostat compatible with this unit?
By the way I thought I was buying a CT87B since the cardboard label identifies the thermostat as such. However, the thermostat itself is stamped CT87A
Any advice sure is appreciated.

souds like the system is tripping on a safety and playing with the thermostat is reseting it. Next time look on the control board for an error code.
Xenos.
The best way to escape a problem is to solve it.
