I have a ruud rooftop that has a electronic ignition. The pilot stays on but when the burner tries to come on the gas valve clicks on and off. Could it be the control module or the gas valve.

Actually it could be either. When the gas valve powers it's possible it's pulling down the voltage due to a short/ground or the sensor is noting flame failure and depowering the valve.

I jumped the main on the valve and it worked. when it was running I could here the module making a clicking noise. Could it be the ignitor / sensor bad or the module. the pilot plug reads 24v, main 0, pv/mv 0. when it clicks the mv jumps up and then drops out.

I would recomedn cleaning the sensor and watch the flame does it stay in good contact with it? if so it may be the module.

I cleaned it with steel wool. When it does start the flame seems to stay on the probe. When I did get it to run by jumping the sensor got nice and hot and still without jumping it would do the same.
