In the past I have used water filled manometer to test gas inlet pressure and manifold pressure, can someone tell me if a digital manometer can be used for this purpose, I'm thinking of ordering one from ebay (Dwyer Mark II not III) but I can't get any info on this unit even on the Dwyer site( they only talk about MarkIII. Does anyone use a digital manometer for this purpose, any pro's and cons?? I was also hoping it would test air pressure switches on Gas Furnaces. Any info would be helpfull

Liquid filled is the most reliable. There is very little margin for error if it is level.

Look to spend several hundred dollars for a good digital one. Make sure you check it against the liquid filled one for accuracy. I work in a lab and we calibrate our digital static pressure meters against liquid filled manometers.

The same thing goes for digital relative humitidy sensors. We rarely use them for taking data. Wet bulb and dry bulb sensors are always trusted over electronic RH sensors.

I use a anolog meter works great for me. Picked it up from A/C supply. Dont think it was that much, $50 or so. I hate those water ones.

Last year I bought a UEI digital manometer. Two days later I returned it to the supply house. The minimum temperature it would work in was 32 degrees. I wasn't about to bring the thing in every night from the van and carry it around in a warm pocket all day for 6 months out of the year just for an occasional reading.

Hi,
I use a digital manometer, it comes in a small air balance kit from dwyer the cost was about 350.00 it includes a pitot tube some static tubes and fittings. I know that these meters come in different ranges you need to choose one that applies to your needs. I would recommend to always get one that will read both negative and positive pressure as you start to do more work in the commercial field you will find that the negative pressure is a must for Makeup Air Units, VAV boxes, Static pressure control in buildings, and checking simple pressure switches as well as gas pressure but keep your mechanical gage handy these things don't work well when you get around 20 degres.

Thanks for your reply, the one I'm looking at reads both negative and positive pressure ( it's used & cost about $50.00 ) but the main thing I want test with it is Inlet Gas pressure ,Manifold Pressure and be able to test the air pressure switches make point. I can't get a straight answer from dywer I guess because it's a older model

Hi,

I made the trip to the truck and checked the meter it is a Dwyer series 475 Mark III digital manometer with a range of 0-19.99 in wc and a max pressure rating of 11 psi.It will also read negative although that is not stated, it also reads differential pressures. We use it on gas all the time and have not seen any amount of failure rate to speak of. So for fifty dollars I think its a pretty safe bet.

Thanks ,for your help,I appreciate your reply I now think it was a good deal( that's $50.00 for 2 digital manometers)so going by what you said it will come in usefull
