Im checking out this 20 ton dx unit, and notice the 2nd stage of cooling is the only stage running. I believe the first stage should be running also because the t-stat manual says the 2nd stage will energize when the first stage has been running for 2 minutes, AND, the temp is more than 5 degrees from the setpoint. It says nothing about the first stage deenergizing. I turned the unit off to ohm some circuits (all was fine) and when I turned the unit back on, I was not getting a call from the stat for 1st stage cooling, but 2nd stage was getting a call. Of course, 2nd stage wouldnt come on despite the call because 1st stage had not been running for 2 minutes. I hope this makes sense, can anyone tell me what the problem may be. Oh yea, I took the t-stat apart, found no problems, then put it back together and it all ran fine. Thanks ya'll

If Y2 is powered and Y1 is not, I would say it's defective.

Xenos.

The best way to escape a problem is to solve it.

Hey Joe if the first stage is ingauged first then the secound stage is inguaged then i say there is a heavy load.(Normally the board will wait 2 minutes before bring on 2nd stage becuase the board wants to make sure there really is a heavy load) If 2nd stage comes on right of the start then there may be a problem. See with a 2 stage unit the 1st stage is a economy stage and 2nd stage is when there is a load. Load is determined when the T-stat senses more then a 2 degree rise in temp.(Depends on T-stat)
Do u understand what ive said?
