My sales office is stocking a product called RydLyme. The literature has an impressive list of clients, but I have never heard of the product. It claims to completely remove scale and deposits, and even disolve shells. All this and biodegradable without harming metal (as acids would). Has anyone used this with success? Can it be substituted for mechanical brush cleaning of heat exchanger tubes? Thanks in advance for the help.
Forever the skeptic...

I have used Rydyme for years. It is a very good product having a specefic use and instructions. I have a number of water/oil heat exchangers on water cooled screw air compressors. Even with good water treatment our area does not allow heavy metal solutions in our treatment with skin temperatures near 160 F. the water tends to make concrete of the minerals that are leached out. With the help from Goodway products and a water drill completely cloged tubes of 5/16 can be opened up. Then I treat the heat exchanger to a flowing and low pressure treatment of Rydlyme. The result is the copper tubes look clean and bright as new. I have saved our corporation thousands of dollars in replacement heat exchangers with this process. I do watch the amount of degradation on the tube sheet, as you know the tubes are only swedged in place and a loose fitting tube can ruin a heat exchanger. To tell if the unit is done cleaning I observe if the product is still foaming if it appears to have stopped there is one of two reasons. The acid is all used up and neutralized of the minerals are all gone. A simple test is to take a tums and see if it foams in a small cup with solution. No foam is the product is all neautralized and foam the unit is clean.
