There will be 2 companies in the same building sharing the same gas and electric meter. We are in different parts of the building, so we each have our own tstat and hvac units. I suspect the units are similar to each other but its possible that they vary as much as a few tons.

I am seeking ideas on how to fairly share the bill. (other than guess) Most of the bill variation is due to the seasons. (Gas can go from $50 in summer to $550 in winter for heating, Electric can go from $550 in winter to $1100 for cooling)

I believe there are curently Honeywell Chronotherm III in use.

I thought, if I changed over to a T-stat that could log the usage (say display unit runtime as 3.5 hrs since last reset), I could use that to attempt to spread the costs.
Say, for example, if his units were on for 6hrs and mine were 12hrs, then, he gets 1/3 (6hrs/total18hrs) of the bill.

Sound reasonable? Got a better idea?

Hi there -

I think you're on the right track... The CIII's are great for moniorig the fier life as well as usage... This can also eliminate any 'disputes' over who uses what.. Afterall, they'll be able to see it with their own eyes.

Word of caution though - don't let them see how you obtain the reading; a smart one will figure out how to reset it in order to get around paying the bill... I've seen this before as well!!!

Take care,
Niko

Check your circuit breaker or fuses before calling for service - it could save you $$!!
