Can anyone give me advice on replacing my 7.5 rooftop unit for a commerical building, which is currently a trane unit, installed in 1962 and no problems, just age. I have 3 quotes from vendors wanting to install a Carrier Unit, York and Trane. From past experience with Trane, no problems, but not sure about the other two units. Seek any feedback on York and Carrier.

Going along with the others said, I'm not a big fan of York at all. When it comes to RTU's, I veer towards Trane simply due to their track record, training I/my co. receives from them for their commercial lines, and my overall relationship with them. No, I'm not 'pushing' for you to get another Trane. Lennox & Carrier both offer excellent products and quality.

Depending on how much your budget is, it may be worth bumping up a notch to a higher SEER for the A/C and/or the AFUE for the heating. Ensure you know everything about the manufacturer's warranties in addition to the installers warranties.

Just as a side-comment, since that 40+ year old unit has done the trick, that should tell you something about Trane's products...

Check your circuit breaker or fuses before calling for service - it could save you $$!!

Make sure that the curb adapter and roof repairs are either quoted specifically as either part of the job- or that you understand your responsibility for the roof if the contracts state that roof work is not part of the job.

I would also recommend the Lennox unit, although Carrier, York and Trane all have very good track records with rooftop units. Also, be sure to have them replace the thermostat (a minor cost compared to the whole job) with a thermostat made for or by the manufacturer of the unit.

I would say either Trane or Lennox would be a good choice. Never been a big fan of York. Think alot comes down to price and quality of installer. I install Trane package units and love the new precident line. I wish i could the old Trane unit and the new Trane unit would match up perfect but im sure they dont. If have some prices and model # we might be able to help more. I know Trane well and Xenos knows Lennox well so we can offer u more info if u would like.

Deborah it really depends on the mode of unit, Some of the unit’s produced today are extremely cheap. Commercially I only recommend the Lennox L series units as these are quality built however this is also reflected in their price. Like Lennox most manufactures offer different lines and this means quality. If your looking for an inexpensive roof top beware as that’s what your going to get. At today’s repair rates these cheap units cost quite a bit more over their life.
