I installed a 4 ton goodman heat pump. Everything seems to work fine except the outdoor unit make a hard hiting sound when it starts. need help on this one. The Connecting lines are only about 4 foot long.

I'm not positive with Goodman, but I know there is a minimum lineset length for Trane units. You might need to add a loop of lineset behind the air handler to prevent liquid slugging at startup - check with Goodman/Janitrol for advice - the distributor should be able to give you a numkber for technical support.

Is there a hard start device? If not i would try it first.

Could it be the compressor motor hitting it's shell?
