I have ac that runs for short time and then the condenser fan shuts off because of what seems to be over heating, however, the condenser coils are clean, the filter is clean, the motor is new, the cap is new. What are the chances of the compressor over heating, causing a chain reaction (coils overheat, then the fan motor over heats), or is there the possability that the system is going into "heat pump" mode where the fan motor is shutting off on purpose and the copressor is causing hot air to blow? Or what else could be causing the fan motor to turn off prematurely after starting up and running fine for about 10-15 minutes?

did you install new fan blade, check amp,try blocking part of cond fan discharge to see if amps decrease. is fan blade to high in shroud.

i don't think ur fan motor is overheating . and there might be some setting are wrong ..
according to what u said, outdoor fan turn off after the system energize for 15 mins.
what i know is , when a heat pump goes into defrost cycle, it 's at cooling mode, outdoor fan stop, and it posibly turn on Auxiliary strip heater to prevent cool air to blow into the room in some unit. if there no strip heater, then the code air is blowing into the room and act as same as the cooling cycle , the only different is that out door fan is off.
check ur defrost control, defrost timer, reversing valve, thermostat setting.
study for hvacr bs degree

Most often the cause would be the motor is overloaded. Check to see that you have the proper voltage to the motor. Check the Run Load rating of the motor(nameplate) and then check with amp probe while running. I am assuming the run cap is the proper size for the motor. Also, be certain the motor is running in the correct direction. I've never run one backwards long enough to determine how long it will take to overheat but running backwards will not move enough air to cool an overair motor.

One other thing. Old tech is right it must be over heating if not bad. But you may not have the blade adjusted to the proper height. You can move the blade up or down until you find the proper amp draw. If the motor over heated one to many times it may never work proper again.

May be the wrong or bad motor. Some units require OEM motors.

The fan could be overheating, since it's a heatpump I would start by verifing it's voltage and amprage as the fan relay could be defective.
Xenos.
The best way to escape a problem is to solve it.
