I m having trouble with a rooftop unit .When you turn it on the comp starts and cools for almost 90 seconds and than it stops cooling and you hear a venting sound as pressure is relieving inside.is there a internal relief valve in the comp or a bypass valve for hi pressure somewhere in the system.or is the compressor bad and leaking thru.

Yes. its in the compressor. If it goes off it means that the head pressure is too high for some reason. Reason are over charged, bad fan motor, restriction and so on.

What is the head pressure?

Xenos.

The best way to escape a problem is to solve it.

Then you have either a restriction or a bad high pressure bypass.
What type of sub cool and super heat do you get. Can you get pressures right off the compressor?

internal presuure reliefs have been know to go bad and relieve at a lower pressure. what kind of pressures are you running?

try then and try harder

Good deal. And I notice from your posts that you did it the next day too.
