If my window unit starts (Fan and compressor) but then the compressor kicks off, could it be a capacitor problem???

Could be as simple as the Tstat sensor touching the cold evap coil. How old is it? How long does the compressor run? Could be dirty plugged condenser coil. Take an amp reading on the compressor.

any number of things could be wrong. most likely condenser got dirty, overheating compressor.
problem with 'window-shakers' is they cost as much to service as they cost to replace.
buy a new one. take the old one apart and see if you can fix/learn anything about it.
you might wind up with one for your garage.

If it breaks it needed to be replaced anyways.

It could be the overload relay located in under the compressor wiring terminal cap.
