I am in a new house and have a heat pump for the first time, not sure if it's working correctly.
When the stat calls for heat, the compressor and air handler fan will come on and off to regulate the temp as I would expect. When it's colder, around 40 degrees or below, the compressor and air handler fan come on, after a period of time, the air handler fan will turn off but the compressor contiues to run. The air handler will come on an go off periodically while the compressor continues to run. The thermostat never seems satisfied and contues to call for heat.
Another thing that i have noticed is that sometimes the comprossor turns of but the fan on the outsied unit will continue to run.
I have read that there is a sequencer relay that controls the heaters and the air handler fan as well as a control board(may be on outside unit) but cannot find any control diagrams or wiring schematics online.
How should this system work normally, and where can I get some information ( literature, schematics, explanations)???
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Jeff

Jeff both of these instances do not sound like proper operation.
Xenos.
