I have a Tappan air handler/coil in the attic that was previously used with an AC only outside unit. I wanted to hook up a heat pump to it and a local contractor assured me that it would work fine. He did the installation of the new Goodman Heat Pump (3 ton) and wired in a new heat/ac thermostat. The heat pump work ok for air conditioning, but when I switch to heat it does not provide any heated air and there is no warmth on either the liguid line (3/8th) or the suction line (3/4). I am wondering now if the old ac coil in the tappan air handler can also work for heat. Help me please before I have to finish paying the contractor. He has refused to come back out to troubleshoot my problem. I also think he may have wired the new heat pump or thermostat incorrectly.

Sorry for the late reply, but that guy appears not to know the heat pump system very well. An AC only indoor coil will not work with a heat pump condensing unit without making modifications.
What you need is a matched heat pump evaporator to go with the new installed heat pump condinsing unit.
