this unit is only 2 years old. it has a burner plate made up of a very fine screen. unit would not fire off. ign. and gas valve ok.
took burner and gas valve out of system and found on the burner screen a large deposit of fine white powder, so much that it blocked the gas from being in contact with the ign. i blew the screen clean with co2, reassembled burner and gas valve and the unit fired of correctly. has this happened to anyone else, if what do you think the material on the screen was? the factory could not help, only that screen may have to be cleaned every two years, i do not buy that. this customer has 13 trane units on the roof. no the other units have not failed and i have not checked the screens.

calcium deposits?
is not trane problem and trane stands up for their product
also that white powder is very hard to control
if you have a pot of water and boil it you will find the same residue at the bottom of the pot once water has boiled out

Cpuld be a material in the air or you could have a exaust issue, either way its someting we see quite often.

no it is not dirty air or exhaset problem, i beleive it is the firber gasketing sealing the burner plate to the housing of the unit. it has broken down and collected on the burner plate. it does fall apart when you have to take apart the burner from the housing. if this is a problem then i beleive trane should admit that this is a design problem and come up with a solution, maybe use a different isolating material.

Its not the gasket. It normal by-producct of combustion, and good luck trying to get trane to step up and admit ANYTHING.
