Hi, we work in a commercial buliding that has gas forced air heat powered by an electric Honeywell Chronotherm 3 thermostat, looks old. Well when turned on we have preset temps for Lo/Hi well the heater works for a short time then shuts off to cold blowing air which makes us reset the thermostat all the time, what could be causing this? When it works it blows warm air like normal, it just shuts off, why?

chronotherm III t-stats are strange animals, and most suitable for the trash heap. (do they even make them anymore??)
overpriced piece of junk, IMO.
do yourself, and everyone else a favor and get rid of it (them).

your hi and low stat settings are.....hi occup the lo is unoccup set them both to 75F for a test run that makes the stat run a constant 75F till satisfied.the fan cycle is from the heater unit not the stat if it is in heat/auto fan the fan limit brings it on when the gas heats up the unit.then you have a hi temp limit within the unit(again all away from the stat call)if the fan doesn't push enough air the chamber overheats and the gas goes off till the fan cools it down and the gas will keep on cycling.go to the unit and remove the stat wires and cycle the heat with the R to W wire from the unit to see the cycle.the gas should come on without fan then the fan clicks in and the gas should stay on with R/W togeather...break it gas goes off then the fan stays on till the unit cools down
It ain't going to get any lighter looking at it!
