I just replaced my condenser fan on a York A/C unit. I bought a generic (GE) fan motor. I had it matched up at the parts supply. The old one had 3 wires: brown, purple (to capisitor) and black. The new fan has a 3rd yellow wire. I hooked it up not using the yellow and it only works in reverse. It has 2 wires to switch polarity on top of the motor, but does not run at all when switched. Does anyone know where the yellow wire goes? Thanks Derb

The new motor probably has two wires for the capacitor - where the old one had one and shared the L2 connection - So you'd have 2 wires going to the capacitor, and the other 2 going to L1 and L2 (the wire on the old capacitor that didn't come from the fan motor). Look at the side of the motor housing - there should be a pretty simple wiring diagram showing where the wires go.
