i am attempting to convert a dayton propane only unit heater, attempted to obtain a coversion kit & there are none for this paticular heater, so i have changed the gas valve & can not obtain any information of size for the drilling of existing orfices. it used to, be done back in the day, common practice & i believe there was a conversion orfice sizing chart. can you direct me of what i may do to resolve my situation. no heat.

I would be very careful and re-think things before MANUALLY converting from propane at nat gas, not only are the oriface sizing different but also the gas valve will need to be modified as well. As far as your question, The chart is out there but I cant seem to locate it either..

thanks for responding, the gas valve has been replaced with a natual gas valve, my aproach now is to calculate the orfice size mathamatly. 14" vs 7" 1/2 of inlet pressure, twice the pressure of n. gas, so the orfice size shoud be twice the size for n.gas, l.p orfice size converted to area X 2,= new area converted back to gas orfice size & then drill out on a drill press 1 bit size smaller, then adjust the manifold to insure proper temp. rise in unit. redrill up to next size if need to, does this seem logical. trying it today.

Re- Think. VERY RISKY. If you convert and the gas leaks or valve fails YOU are 100% in DEEP Trouble. If someone is hurt it will be BAD. You have CHANGED the Design and the UL is Gone. All liablity is YOU.
PROPANE ONLY is Just THAT, even the burners are Designed for Propane. Insurance may not pay if something happens Because you did that.
