I am trying to install 6 Totaline P374-2800 thermostats. When I installed the first one it has a blank display. I have a 4 wire lead: g to g, y to y1, w to w1, and r to r. There is 24vac from r to g,y, and w. There is no common wire. The dual pacs are gas heat and a/c. This is a simple install with jumpers left in original positions. The book says to check power which seems ok. Help.

those tstats are for 2 cool and 3 heat heat pump, you only have it wired for straight cool r,y,g,w. to run those stats you need to have a common, try installing straight cool stats and setting them for gas heat, those should not need a common,if they do want the programming, make sure the stat takes batteries for the memory........................

I want to use the Totaline with the locking cover to eliminate user problems at the church and privide an override function for non-scheduled use. It is a large existing facility with rooftop units. Is their an easy way to provide a common or am I back to square one.

for all of the units, you must hook up a common wire to go to the stat.to get a common wire you must go into each unit(where the blower is)and find your transformer or terminal board and hook up an extra wire in the stat line to the common hook-up coming from the transformer,if there is a terminal board it should have a "c" on it,if you do not than you must break off one side of the transformer to be used for a common, but i still think that those stats still will not work.but if you can handle messing with 240 volts or 460 volts sometimes than try these steps out.
good luck and be careful.....................

OK. One last attempt to adapt and overcome. I have a shortage of leads on some of the thermostats. If I were to disconnect the green fan wire and use it as the common, would I just loose the manual fan override function or would the automatic relays in the units be affected on heat and cool cycles? If all else fails, would connecting a good ground to the common terminal be dangerous. Thanks for all the help, I'm just an old firefighter.

trust me,get the straight cool programmble stats and do not take off the green wire.
if you do it the correct way you will not have any problems..
