I just bought a Ritetemp 6022 thermostat and need a little help. I have a heat pump with Aux heat. When I was removing my old thermostat there was a jumper from W2 to E. While connecting the new one the instructions didn't say anything about hooking up a jumper to the E, but it did address that if my heat pump couldn't keep up with the heat that I requested I had to move a jumper wire that would allow the Aux heat to come on and that would be the only heat source when I did that. Did I just buy the wrong thermostat ( I listened to the Home Depot guy), shouldn't the Aux come on automatically when the heat pump can't handle the request? The heated air seems much cooler now. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

first mistake rite temp is nothing more than junk no offense, if I can recall there are a couple dip switch settings you have to use in order for the aux to be energized when the h.p. has met its balance point. Follow the directions it sounds to me that you have the correct stat a multi stage or h.p. stat. When a heat pump reaches the lowest tempature it can maintain 4 the heating requirements of the house its mets it balance point from their the strip heat is energized and designed to assist the h.p in obtaining the required setpoint temp. Read the instructions if you cant get it to work call a pro and have them install a reputalbe stat. Again no offense but the stats you find at home depot or lowes whatever are geared for harry the homeowner their usually p.o.s. and break in a couple months anyway. If your trying to save money have a contractor install a programmable stat
