i need someone to let me know if there is a code in washington dc that allows you to not have to put lining inside the return duct. I have a situation where the owner of the space is telling me that i have to line the inside of the return air to prevent sweating and i am telling him it is not necessary. The duct has already been put up and drywall has been put in place. I am trying to avoid having to pay people to redo all this work

Lining the inside the duct is for noise reduction not sweating.

Wraping your R/A duct or installing a liner is not needed. R/A ductwork is returning space temp air back to the air handler and is not cold enough to make it sweat. The Supply ductwork on the otherhand should be wraped (if metal) or have insullated flex duct to prevent sweating. This will make your unit more efficient.
Hope this helps.
