Ok i am a first time poster here. I have a Rheem/Rudd rooftop unit. Model RMKA A060JL10E. When calling for cooling everything comes on properly. The pressures are about 45 over 180 and outside temp is 74. After about 5 or so minutes the contactor de-energizes. But the yellow does keep its 24 volts. After another 5 or so minutes it comes back on. This is repeatitive and soon trips the breaker. The indoor coil seems to be frezzing up but when i try to add freon the pressures dont react to it.

First are these the right pressures. Does this mesn a bad compressor or something else? I am clueless.

Thanks in advance

It sounds like your tripping on low pressure cut-out.

A low suction pressure is usually cause by multiple things.
Line restriction: you would see ice build up on your piping
Lack of airflow: Dirty filter, dampers in duct closed, dirty evap coil.
Low on charge.

I'm assuming that when you state "45 over 180" you refering to Suction and Discharge pressures. At 75 deg OAT the high pressure guage should read approximatly 135 psi. And if this is all true, then the head pressure is evelated, even though the suction pressure is low. There are a lot of steps in the troubleshooting process prior to shootin' the gas to it. Adding refrigerant whitout knowing what the problem makes very difficult to correctly repair the A/C. I would suggest that you reclaim the refrigerant; pressure and vacuum check the unit, weigh in the charge. Clean the condenser, and take accurate pressure and then you have the data necessary to troubleshoot the equipment.

thanks. I have checked filters and coil. they are good. The coil does seem to be condensating alot. I will check the others and then r and r the charge and go from there. Thanks
