Hi, I just obtained a heat pump for a pool that has a 480V compressor in it. It is a Trane GP673-LM4-GB. Does Phase rotation matter on this unit? How would I know if it is running backwards or does that not matter on a hermetic recrip compressor?

you have 480V 3 phase in a house service

If it is a reciprocating compressor, then phase rotation doesn't matter. If it is a scroll compressor, then it will be very noisy, and won't pump well if it runs backwards.
It's only a shock if your not expecting it!
