I recently installed a gmp furnace that is blowing too much air in the heat mode. on the circuit board the black wire from the IDB is connected to cool the orange to heat and the red to M1 the M2 has no wire connected. Will connecting the red to heat reduce cfm? Is the M1 and M2 like a park? What if I connect the orange to M1 after connecting red to heat? Thanks for any help you may be able to provide me. Neat web sight!

yes you are correct in the assumtion of the m1 and m2 being a "park" for unused fan speeds and red will be the slowest speed on the motor. so go ahead and switch the orange and red wires and go with it. good luck.

it just depends on the manufacturer, if you want to know just look at the wiring diagram and see where they put the unused leads.

tempmaster thanks for the info. I changed the heat to low speed and performed a temp. rise test 42 degrees f.- well within specs. thanks again.

Have no diagrams for that furnace however Red is standard for low speed.
