1st post here. Trying to troubleshoot emergency heat mode for a Lennox ECB19-10.0-1P (I think this is the model number) Heating unit. I'm not familiar with how the unit was installed but have been looking over the wiring diagram. 1. On the diagram it says that an emergency heat relay is used ONLY if an outside thermostat is used. I don't think that there is an outside thermostat (unless it's located in the condensing unit or some other obscure place- what do they look like and where are they generally located so I can make sure) so, does that mean that since I don't have a relay that I don't have emergency heat? OR, can you still have emergency heat without having an emergency heat relay? I know that the furnace has electric heating elements in the plenum so I'm assuming that that means the unit is at least equiped with backup heaters correct? What I'm trying to do is to get the backup heaters working in order to pass a homeowners inspection correction sheet so that we can sell the house. 2. On the thermostat, you can switch directly over to emergency heat and a yellow (?) light comes on. Another red (?) indicator comes on and says something to the effect of "service emergency heat" or perhaps just "service" but I'm reasonably certain that the "service" light only comes on when it's in emergency heat mode. I'm a little confused about this because on the wiring diagram it says "connections at terminals e and x are only used if emergency heat relay is used. So, if I don't have an emergency heat relay (because I don't have an outside thermostat) then why would the service light come on OR is it coming on BECAUSE it's hooked up AND I don't have an emergency heat relay (or something along those lines). 3. Further complicating matters for me is that on the wiring diagram it's showing a "S1" thermostat with the following letters (for the heat pump application) E,VR,X,Y,F,R,M,V,A,L. However, in the manual (that I have the BOTTOM half of it shows the Old T-stat nomenclature of A,L,R,M,M2,E,3,W2,V,Y,F. And compares it to the New nomenclature of T,L,O,Y1,Y2,E,C,W2,R,W1,G. Note that the E terminal (for emergency heat (relay only?)is not used on this T-stat. Would this mean that emergency heat is not used or just the relay? 4. Would there be a quick way to jumper out the t-stat from the crawl space so I don't have to keep crawling out? The letters on the terminal block that the tstat wires are hooked to are 3,G,W,W1,W2,W3,R. A. I'd like to be able to activate heat mode from below. B. " " activate emergency heat mode from below Any help appreciated.

I don’t fully understand what you are referring to however you do not require a emergency heat relay to utilize emergency heat. All that needs to be done is jump the emergency heat terminal to the aux heat terminal. However If you did have an outdoor thermostat holding off the Aux heating until a predetermined out door air temperature this would not work since the aux heating would be being held off on this thermostat, then you would use a emergency heat relay to bypass this thermostat and allow aux heating.
P.S. the ECB19 is the model number for the electric heaters them selves. not the air handler or the heat pump.
Xenos.
The best way to escape a problem is to solve it.
