I have a LuxAire High Efficiency gas furnace that I think was installed in 1991. It sometimes won't heat up.
Example. The thermostat temp read 60 degrees I set it to heat to 71 degrees. I hear the exaust fan come on, then the gas begins to flow and I see a glow then I hear a click like it's attempting to light the burners. The glow quickly fades and is gone. The Circulation fans comes on but is only moving room temp air. I then shut the system down. The circulation fan keeps running for a while. It sometimes turns off and sometimes stays running until I cut it off at the fuse box.
Any Ideas?

do you see a flame at any time and if you do how long does it stay on?

Yes I see a flame, then hear a switch (maybe the gas turning on) it burns only briefly after the switch, It makes a sound like it was blown out. If I wait a bit I will start to see the glow again, then the same.

Since you see flame it may be going off on flame failure. Clean /sand the flame sensor. Look for a rod / wire at the far end of the burners from the igniter.

I cleaned (sanded) that sensor off. It didn't look corroded or dirty and actully doesn't look any diferent now. The system is burning fine now, so I will wait and see. It's been hit or miss the last 4 days, sometimes functioning fine and sometimes not heating at all.
Thanks for you help. I'll let you know how it goes.

The sensor it self may look simple and plain however the slightest buildup of contaminants can cause it to malfunction. This rod is powered and once the flame has been established the module will monitor how much current is leaking from ground back to this rod. See the flame it’s self has a high amount of moisture in it and this moisture conducts electricity. Being such a small amount of energy leakage in the flame it doesn’t take much to mess up the signal.
This may not be it, however it’s the most logical starting point.
You should also make note of the module on the unit. Some of them like WhiteRodgers give you an error code with an LED.

If you don’t see any flame at all and you heard the click of the gas valve I think you may need a professional to check the gas flow.
