I am replacing an old bryant thermostat with a ritetemp 5-1-1 programable thermostat. The wiring on the old one- red wire was connected to W, white wire was connected to R5, and the green was connected to Y6. I have a hot water boiler-baseboard heating system. I connected the red to RH, the white to the W, and the green to Y. The problem I am having is when the temperature on thermostat is met, the heat does not shut off. Also do I even have to hook up the green wire-isn't this for fan motor on FHA system. Thanks!

I really need to know what the old thermostat is. I have a feeling it was a 2 position thermostat where one contact would open a valve then the boiler would start then when the call is over the thermostat would call the other contact and close the valve shutting off the boiler. Do you have the model number of the thermostat ?
Xenos.
The best way to escape a problem is to solve it.
