I have an old trane XT302B thermostat and bought a new Ritetemp 8030 and am having an issuw with the wiring. The Trane has coming out of the wall R B W1 Y1 W2 G. The W2 is giving me the problem. Where on the ritetemp should this go. My heater is a Trane XL80. The options on the rite temp are C RC O B RH W Y G. Note that the RC and RH are jumped.

The Rite Temp thermostat does not support 2-stage systems. Purchase a Honeywell Vision touchscreen thermostat from Lowes. This will work on your system

The Rite Temp is for Single Stage Units only. Purchase a Honeywell Vision Thermostat from Lowes instead. It will control your 2-stage system.

If you are referring to a heat pump Rite temp does not support multi stage heat pumps and if you have AUX heating you have a 2 stage heat system.

I am quite sure it is not a heat pump. It is a 2 stage unit as I just found it on the Trane Website. Can this Ritetemp thermost be used with it? If not any suggestions on a good digital unit. Programmable If I conect the W or W1 to the new ther W I will get low heat. If I connect W1 and W2 to the new therm W for high heat will this ruin my heater as it will only run on one stage?

W2 is second stage heating. Second stage heating is exactly that second stage as in more than one. A heat pump is the best example where the heat pump is first stage heating and the furnace would be second.

So by wiring the way I stated in my last question will that work? Or should I get a thermostat that has both stages on it? Any reccomendations?

Yes you could however there would be a benefit to using a two stage thermostat and one of the benefits would be the fuel economy.

No it’s not a multi stage thermostat you are looking for it’s a multistage heat pump thermostat. If Honeywell it will end in 11 like T8611.

Sorry about that Crag I think I have to slow down, Man things are growing here and I have been feeling quite overwhelmed the last couple days. I get so many questions about Rite temp thermostat not working with multi stage heat pumps and it’s always the same answer. Your are the first to ask a non heat pump related Rite temp question from what I can remember.

Yes that thermostat will work and it’s top shelf. However I just want to point out that this thermostat requires a common power wire so you may have to run an extra wire from the furnace to the thermostat.

OK I sent you another email to your other address and it stated the wires I have coming out of the wall which are R,B,W1,Y1,W2 and G. Is one of these the common wire?

I would say yes since Trane uses B as common.

OK one final step, The wiring going to the new Honeywell will be from same letter to same letter axcept for the B or is this on the Honeywell as well. ANd do I need to jump any wires on the new thermostat.

Am I coorect in assuming that there will be a B on the new Honeywell. If not the B out of the wall should go to what connector on the thermostat.

A donation will be coming your way soon after I complete the install. Thanks for your time it is greatly appreciated.
