My home air will not shut off. I don't think it is the thermostat since the furnace will shut off automatically when the setpoint is reached.
Any ideas?

Does the fan? if it does I would suggest it's the contactor.

Thanks for the reply. I can't answer your question, about a year and a half ago the fan relay on the control circuit board failed and it was bypassed so now I run the fan all of the time. Could you clue me in to where the contactor is? Is it a do it yourselfer fix?
Thanks again,
Dan

The contactor is a high current relay that is located in the condensing unit and controls the starting and stopping of the condensing unit.

Ok, something I failed to mention is that I can shut the air off from the thermostat by manually moving the selector from cool to off. The air will not shut off automatically when the set point on the thermostat is reached. The heat will shut off automatically however. Is the contactor still the likely suspect?
Thanks

We are having this same type of problem. Replaced the 24v transformer, the blower fan relay, the contactor, and the thermostat. Still getting power outside to call the compressor in and thermostat will not shut down at cool setpoint; only by switching to off position. Works fine in heat

This answer is for ( aint ). This sounds like your powering your compressor contactor from an O terminal which would be powered anytime the themostat is switched to cool. Just double check your wiring to make sure it's getting power from the Y terminal which will cycle the unit on temperature. The two wires going to the condensing unit should be Y and C-COMMON.
Keep Cool!
