My HRV returns the fresh air into the furnance cold air return duct.I was wondering if the furnace is supposed to be operated on low speed at all times. This brings up another question, I have already checked the fan on the furnance and it is a four speed. It is wired for the fastest speed with ac on and lowest speed when the fan switch on the furnance is on.Is there a way to slow down the blower even more? The blower motor is a direct drive.

It really depends on the design, some are not a concern, as the fresh air coming in is essentially just preventing a negative pressure from occurring in the home . Others require the furnace fan to run as the furnace duct work is the HRV’s ductwork. As far as the fan speed goes, the lowest speed is the lowest speed.
