Hey all. New guy to homeowning and trying to install a new t-stat. Two quick questions. 1. Is the Honeywell ct3611r or ct3611a the right choice for a 14 y/o trane XE 800 heat pump? reason i am asking is that I cannot find out where on any plates it says whether it is a single or multi stage heat pump. Thanks in advance for you help.

Those thermostats should work fine with a single stage heat pump with aux. heat.(1 stage cool/ 2 stage heat). This is what most residential heat pumps are.

Keep Cool!

The one that I bought is a 3611r, and on the back it says for multi stage heat pumps. Would that be ok? The guy I spoke with at lowes told me that since the house was built in 90, most residences would have multi stage. Is this correct?

If it's a heat pump with aux heat, it's a multi stage system.

One last question, then I promise to hopefully be done here. There is no system monitor wire F or L on my baystat339. It also says to tape off wire T. Will the system run correctly if there is no system check? Cause it seems there is not one on my pre-existing unit? Thanks.

Yes, first off digital thermostats use a cycle rate to control temperature so the T wire is not required ( anticipator) and the L is only a status ( monitor) for your convenience and not the systems.
