I need to change out a fan motor sitting on top of an air conditioner compressor. A substitude motor has been obtained to replace a the work out orginal. The original fan has three wiring attached to it. The three wires are brown, black, and yellow. The brown wire appears to hook into a capacitor. The yellow wire hooks into a small power panel distribution. The black wire appears to hook to a ground.
The new motor arrived today and it is much different. All information I've found indicates it is a suitable replacement. The shipping box states the motor is single speed. The motor also came with a capacitor (SH capacitor, 100000AFC, 5 micro farads, 370/400 VAC, 50-60 Hz).
The new motor has many wires. It has two wires which come out its side and go directly back into the motor. Theese wire look like they are ready made to be plugged into some type of switch. These two wires are yellow and purple.
There are 5 additional wires.
A brown wire A brown wire with a white stripe A black wire A White wire A green wire with a small white stripe and it is much thinner than all the other wires.
I just do not know what to do at this point. Since the system is a 220 volt system, it’s a good idea to get real clear on how to wire in the new motor.

One wire will go on one set of terminals and the other wire will go on the other set.

The brown and the brown/white both go to the capacitor. Black and white wires got to your contactor one on each lug. The green is a ground and the purple and yellow are reversing leads to change the direction the motor spins.

The help with the connections is good. The issue I've got at this time relates to the capacitor. There just do not seem to be any markings on the capacitor so I know how to plug in the brown wire and the "brown wire with little white stripe". Is it possible to plug the wires in backwards into the 5 micro farad capacitor? Should the outter casing of the capacitor be grounded?

Technicaly no, however there is normaly a marking that shows witch side will ground out first if it fails.
Xenos.
The best way to escape a problem is to solve it.
