hi all i am a student at tidewater community college in portsmouth v.a. and im trying to get into the hvac-r field. i am having a little trouble with my home work :) thought i would ask around what exactly is adiabatic expantion? and where/why does it happen in a hvac-r? i know that it has something to do with expanstion without heat loss or gain. but i am still a little unclear on the exact definition (and yes i use spell check for my homework lol) thx in advance

WOW now this is a question. As you have stated Adiabatic expansion is the expansion of a gas without the absorption of heat. Lets look at a molecule of air as it’s temperature changes so does it’s volume. However with Adiabatic compression (compression chosen for a reason) we use lets say a refrigeration compressor to compress the gas there by not using heat but a mechanical means.
