I have just recently graduated college (May) with my bachelors degree in Criminal Justice Administration. Now thats out of the way I can get on with what I REALLY WANT TO DO!!
Do I have to attend a school in order to get certified in Texas to purchase freon or work on units or can I learn OJT (on job training) and challenge government test. (Im sick and tired of school)????
Thanks for any advise!!!

I had the same dilemma after graduating Harvard Law school and passing the bar. Who in the world would want to take a $100,000 a year junior parnership when they could crawl in the mud for 8 bucks an hour? I feel your pain, you may just have to settle for a life of leisure. Good Luck

Not sure in Texas but here it’s a 5 year apprentice ship. You will be given credits for you education however you still need to go through the ropes.

You will need a CFC license to start with in order to handle refrigerants. It's a small manual, you can memorize it in a week or so. Call a local trade college or parts supplier they should be able to administer the test for a few hundred dollars. Most companies want experience or formal education but a few may take you in at the ground level.

Ok wannabe, you want the real 411? Here it is. HVAC basic training involves being able to stand on the sun barefooted, sleeping overnight in a freezer to stay warm, and swimming with every shark that comes along. If this sounds like your kind of life, we could sure use you in the trade.
