Hello-
I have a Rheem Criterion II heater, with an integrated direct spark ignitor, that recently stopped working. When the thermostat is turned to heat the furnace starts up like normal, and gas starts to come out of the burners for about 7 seconds, but the spark ignitor never fires and the burners never light. It goes through this cycle four times, and then shuts down.
The technician from the gas company looked at it today, and he lit the burners by hand and everything worked fine, which seems to confirm that the ignitor is bad. He said that I would probably have to replace the whole furnace control board even though the only thing not working is the spark ignition. Does this sound accurate? I noticed that the sparking electrode is connected to the control board with one wire through some kind of round plastic module (maybe a capacitor). Is it possible to just replace that part or would the problem most likely be deeper in the control board?
Thank you in advance for any help.

Try cleaning the ignitor with steel wool, you need to clean both sides.

I tried cleaning the ignitor already with steel wool. Also, I used a multimeter to see if there was any voltage coming to the ignitor when it was supposed to be sparking and I didn't get any reading.

You have to replace the whole board.
