Hi, I have a Williams Furnace 50GV-5 furnace with a honeywell vs821c1000 valve. The heater recently stopped working. What happens is the pilot lights (and stays lit fine), but when I go to turn on the heater with the thermostat it makes a click like it is going to turn on (same click as it always made) except now the pilot goes out, and heater does not light. Why would this be? I have disconnected the valve from the furnace, but have no idea what to look for to fix, if fixing is possible.

What would be a workable vavle replacement? Bear in mind, I am using propane, not natural gas. What is the difference between gas and propane valves?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I am NO technician! But I had this similiar problem once when there was a big freeze and ice storm. My problem was that the valve on the gas meter, (in your case on your propane tank), had moisture in it and was freezing up not allowing enough gas to pass for the furnace to come on....the pilot stayed on ok. I remember one winter when I was a kid and we had an outside Propane Tank and the same thing happened, we had space heaters..but only one very small space heater would light up, someone told my dad to por hot water on the valve at the propane tank and it worked! My Furnace Tech took a big bucket of hot water and poured over the gas valve at m outside gas meter and everything started back working fine. This probably won't be your answer, I was lucky!!!!!! Good Luck.
