Here is my problem. I have only 3 wires coming from the wall. I have an R(power), G(fan relay), and a W(heat control). My old thermostat also controls the ac compressor as well. I am installing a Ritetemp 8050. I know most systems have a Y wire coming from the wall but mine does not. There is a Y wire that is inside the thermostat but it is connected to a switch internally and not going out through the wall. I am not sure how my original thermostat is controling the compressor since there is no return wire to the compressor itself. I hooked the R and G together and the fan came on but not the compressor. I then hooked the R and the W and the furnace came on. What should I do? The ac is a Carrier 38EDO24310(from the mid 80's). Thanks

By chance would this be a moble/Trailer home?
If so some have switch at the inside unit that change from cooling to heating.

One option would be to pull a new 4 wire and do away with this old thermostat wire. Somtimes saves alot of time and frustration

Remember the Veteran of wars so we can do this today & tommmorow
