Low Charge is one of several reasons that will cause your evaporator to ice up. Because this corrected your problem before as long as your filter is clean and you are getting good airflow then your system is probably low on charge again. Whenever you have to add refrigerant it is due to a leak. Leaks can be difficult to locate but unless you want to have the system charged several times a year it's time to locate and repair the leak.

I have 7 year old Rheem system and last year it started doing the same thing. I had several people out saying and doing the same thing saying there was a leak but they were not able to locate it and then they would charge it again. One person charged it too much and now my unit is very noisy when it kicks off and on. I am now debating to replace the whole unit or just the compressor. I was told I should have insisted on one of the individuals on performing a more thorough test, sometimes it might even take them a couple of day in a row coming out and testing the freon but it sure would have saved me all the headaches and service calls. Trouble is finding an honest and knowledgable person. Hope this helped. I am getting ready to write for some advise myself.
always something
