have system 3.5 for compressor 5 for air handler. have been told so many things from so few companies, don't know what to do. have been told i need 5 ton comp and 5 ton handler for 2600 sq home, ft. myers fl. now i'm told i just need 3.5 and 3.5 in lennox system. there should be an easier way i'm sure but ya just don't trust everyone today. Thanks for any help Tony

You could use the 5 tr air handler but should make sure that you have the 3.5 tr piston/orifice or TXV in the air handler coil so that you'll match the performance of the outdoor unit.
You should also reduce the fan speed down to medium or med-low to give you the correct airflow through the cooling coil.
your cooling down time will be a bit longer, but you'll also benefit from more moisture removal with the larger sized coil.
Your superheat will be off a bit, but that can be compensated for without much concern.

No matter how idiot proof you make something better idiots will always try and screw around with it!
