I have a Carrier Premium Non-Programmable thermostat. I'm pretty sure that it is 1 stage cooling and 2 stage heating. Will a P474-1050 Totaline programmable thermostat work in it's place? I really want to replace it with a programmable thermostat.

Sounds like you have a heat pump. Look at the info. with the T'stat and see if it is suitable for use with a heat pump.
