I have a rheem heat pump and need to change out the thermostat. This is a multi stage system. the air handler inside is a model
Rheem RHQA 1218 T the thermostat is a rheem RXMT-A72 .
The terminals and coresponding wires are as follows:
R=red wire
T=black wire
O=#FFFAF0 wire
G=green wire
Y=yellow wire
E=white wire
X=blue wire
U= none
W2=jumpered to E
L= brown wire
I bought a Honeywell RTH7400 and would like to know where the brown and black wires go.....I believe they are not used? I hooked the blue wire to C on the Honeywell. and have a jumper between aux and w2 and orange wire to O/B. Unit comes on and heats but seems to keep the fan running after reaching temperature in the room. Something wrong?
Any help will be appreciated.

when you set up the thermostat in the setup menu what did you set option 170 too?

should be set to 7(seven)

option 180 set to 1(one)

Help is just a question away.

Hey bama.
I had the 170 option set to 7 and reread the options under 170 and then tried option 9 which is basicly the same as 7 but says two stage heating and one stage cooling. Now the unit operates correctly. whats the difference between the two options?

I checked the settings under 170 and had chosen 7 but read down farther and there is an option 9 which reads two stage heating and single stage cooling. I set it to 9 to try it and now the fan shuts off. Whats the dif between the two?
7 Multi-stage heat pump: Heat pump with backup or auxiliary heating.
9 Conventional multi-stage system: 2 heat stages (wires on W and W2),1 cooling stage (wire on Y).
I have a heatpump with heat pack and emergency heat. Which is right? Funny if you use the letters on the outside of back plate (which are for heat pump) i dont have wires on a w1 and w2 but if you read the inside letters I do? (which are for conventional system)
