Hello, I have a ducane 94% eff that is a year old. Sometimes the furnace fires up and then the flame goes out after 50 seconds. It does this untill I turn it off and them back on. I was told to clean the flame sensor. Can anyone tell me where it is, or have a picture of it?

Thanks
Jack

Is the unit still under warranty? All the Ducane units I have worked on have a combination pilot burner and flame sensor which is
VERY fragile and difficult to get at. Made by Honeywell. Not all flame sensors are easy to get at. Ducanes have had drainage problems, pressure switch problems, Honeywell Smart valve problems. Check the condensate drain from the unit and make sure it is not plugged. Check your intake/exhaust plastic pipes outside to make sure they are clear. If you have a donut shaped one outside stick your fingers behind it and check for blockage. If it is frozen take a hair dryer and thaw it out. That is where the air enters.

Good Luck

Yuri

Yes, the unit is still under warranty, but parts only not labor. The furnace is working, but like I said from time to time, it has the issue of running for 50 seconds then shutting down. All drainage is fine along with intake/exhaust pipes being clear. I just thought I would clean off the flame sensor if someone could tell me where it is at, or what it looks like. I have the 75,000 btu high eff ducane. BTW I also would like to jumper the unit so it cycles on the hottest cycle all the time if anyone knows how to do that.

Thanks
Jack

The flame sensor on this unit is built into the pilot burner with the Hot surface igniter next to it and next to impossible to clean. It usually goes for several years B4 needing cleaning (not like some other types). I have had problems with the pressure switches in these units (intermittent) as they monitor 3 different conditions. Sorry I cannot be more helpful. You may want to get a professional to check it if it gets worse. Some companies offer maintenance packages with labor discounts and that may help you.
