Hello. I've been reading the posts here and there's alot of good information - much appreciated. I have a problem with an XE1200 heat pump and air handler. This summer the unit started malfunctioning. Whenever the air conditioning would come on, the auxillary heat strips in the air handler would also come on (I found this out after receiving a giant electric bill). To temporarily remedy the situation I just threw the breakers on the heat strips. Now that cool weather is here, I need to fix the problem. In heat mode, the heat pump and auxillary heat appears to work ok, although the pump makes some strange noises (whining and whistling) I think when it's trying to go into defrost mode (the fan doesn't stop at this point, either). Can anybody suggest where to begin troubleshooting? Defrost board in pump? Short in air handler board? A sticking valve or bad relay? Much appreciated for any suggestions. BE

While I would restore power, measure amperage at the sequencer, measure for control voltage to the sequencer then W at the air handler. If 24VAC is present to W, isolate stat W and heat pump W to verify source of control signal...

I recommend calling a pro. Your pro may find this difficult.

"Tip of the Day" Remember to remove power first.
