I have a heatpump in my basement i put in a new thermostat last spring and ran the a/c fine all summer long, now that the heat is kicking on my outside compressor is triping after about 15 minutes. I go out side and hit the red button and it starts right back up. and then shuts off again about 15 minutes later. Could I have done something in the thermastat wiring or do you think its the outside unit?

thanks

If your filter was real dirty most likly your indoor coil is dirty also. Check the indoor coil and see if it is dirty if so clean it. The promblem does not sound like a thermostat issue.

Check your filter and indoor coil.Your indoor coil becomes the condenser coil in heat mode so lack of airflow can cause compressor to go off on high head pressure, that is what the reset button is for.

I replaced the air filter right after i noticed the unit going off outside. The filter was completly full but it was still going off outside. I found out what my model number on my thermostat is it's rth7400d. I seen another post were someone said that there should be a jumper between Aux and E the manuel only talks about a jumper between r and rc.

thanks
