This is heating only, made in 1999 and used since 2001, and may have had cooling in previous installation. I got it used and have just finished hooking it up. Following instructions, I turned on the gas and power. The led below is steady red. When tstat is turned up, the led indicates code 31. At no time does the little fan ( inducer motor?)just below the top vent outlet turn. (the one with the black plastic disk on it) It is quite hard to turn the fan by forcing the black disk. I tried it and sort of turned it by a click, like winding an alarm clock, and decided to stop.
The 4" vent pipe seems ok - no obstructions. It runs about 6 feet (and two 90-degree horizontal turns ) to the 8" main vertical stack at about 2"/foot slope and vented my old furnace just fine.
To quote 31: "PRESSURE, DRAFT SAFEGUARD, AUXILIARY LIMIT (when used), OR BLOCKED VENT SHUTOFF (when used)SWITCH DID NOT CLOSE OR REOPENED. Then check for:
-Proper vent sizing and condensate pitch or sag
-Vent restriction or high winds
-Defective inducer motor or start capacitor
-Defective pressure switch or connections. If it opens after trial for ignition period blower will come on for 90 second recycle delay
-Inadequate combustion air supply
-Low inducer voltage
-Disconnected or obstructed pressure tubing
Here, what is pressure tubing? vent shutoff switch? etc,etc....
Maybe I should mention that I am trying to run the unit without a plenum on just to see if it works before I pay a guy to fit it with one. I figure it would be ok to do for a minute or so. Everything else is set as should be. When the tstat is turned up, all I get is a buz from the vent-fan transformer mount. Otherwise no detectable movement anywhere, no ignition. I hope this is just something little....like a bad contact or such.
I will be greatful for any advice, thank you in advance.

peace

If you are able to spin the inducer motor as you described, it's shot. They should turn eaisly and with no sound. Call your dealer and get a new one. They are not cheap.

If they don't find ya handsome nor handy surgery may help!

Thank you, Chandler57 - so I tried again, and after a few back-and-forth nudges the bearing(bushing?) freed up and the motor worked ok. The furnace ignited and seems to work ok. Now the plenum and ducting....Thank you very much for your trouble!
