Ruud 2 ton, 14seer, heat pump: specs say to use a 1/4 inch copper tube liquid line. Why is there a 3/8inch outlet on the condenser, a 3/8 inch inlet on the evaperator, and 3/8 inch connectors on the dryer. I'm inclined to use a 3/8 inch line and avoid all these unnecessary adaptors. However, our sales guy says that Ruud specifies a 1/4 inch line and that it is probably necessary for the 14 seer rating. I dont see how that can be true. What do you guys think? Can I just use a 3/8 inch line?

Thanx for the info. I will use 3/8. The line set is 32' and runs from the outside condenser up to the attic over a 2 story home.

The only time tubing size is a relevant factor is on linesets greater than fifteen feet in length. The 3/8 is fine if you are under that.... You can go up to 40 ft with no problems in either mode though...

my opinion is to use the 1/4inch like the manufacturer suggest when you are talking about a heat pump.

the only time you will have any problems is in the heat mode.....
