My sister and Brother in law say there's a sawdust smell coming from their basement, in the furnace room. I'm here now, and there's definitely a cedar sauna aroma down here...that's filtering throughout the house. They're worried about something possibly smouldering down here. But we can't seem to find the root cause of this smell yet. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I don't know what kind of heat they have, you can check in the area of the flue pipe, see if it maybe next to a floor joist. I would shut down the furnace so that it eliminates drafts and see if you can pin point it, if you can't find the source in a short peroid of time, I would suggest calling the Fire Department, most Fire Departments have thermal imaging cameras that can help find hot spots. It's always better to be safe then sorry.
